Clun talk by International Authority on Sustainable Transport & Climate change.
Clunbury Climate and Environment Group has arranged a talk, hosted by Councillor Nigel Hartin, Shropshire Councillor for Clun Division, on Wednesday 29th June , at 6.30pm at Clun Memorial Hall. The keynote Professor John Whitelegg, an international authority on sustainable transport
Cllr Hartin said; "I am pleased to host this meeting in Clun, coming at a time of increasing challenges faced by the Country in meeting its climate targets and most particularly to welcome the highly influential speaker, Prof Whitelegg who is an international renowned authority on sustainable transport who will describe exactly what we have to do to reduce transport carbon and how this reduction benefits all 350,000 residents and deals with the emergency."
Professor Whitelegg commented: "Shropshire Council has declared a climate emergency and has committed to reducing climate damaging carbon emissions. The largest source of carbon emissions in Shropshire is transport. The South Shropshire Climate Action project has produced a detailed report on how to reduce transport carbon and why it must be reduced by 50% by 2030"
Shropshire Council has pledged to achieve Carbon Net Zero by 2030. The Council's Climate Team is working on various projects in order to achieve Net Zero for Shropshire Council, and contributing to wider activity to decarbonise Shropshire including additional activities such as training, support for community climate action and changes to procurement.
