Three Shropshire Councillors in South West Shropshire have volunteered to join the lateral flow testing programme for pupils at the Community College in Bishop's Castle.

Ruth Houghton (Bishop's Castle Division), Nigel Hartin (Clun Division) and Heather last week joined the team of volunteers that regularly test pupils for COVID after the opening of the school on 8th March.

Nigel Hartin said: "This is a key requirement for the safe re-opening of schools. Normally a different year is tested every school day with the aim of identifying and isolating any infected person quickly.

Ruth Houghton said "I've been really impressed about how well organised this programme has been and full credit is due to the Head and staff for this. The pupils have also been excellent and the volunteer team has been able to test each year group in only a couple of hours."

Heather .said " it's very good news that students are back at school and anything we can do to help as volunteers supports the staff and students in getting back to classroom lessons which is so important after months of lockdown and home learning."
