Big Thank You to Supermarkets  From Rural Food Banks

Councillors in the West of Shropshire have given a big ‘thank you’ on behalf of the food banks in Bishops Castle and Worthen for the help they have received from Tesco, Morrisons and the Co-op.
Chirbury and Worthen Shropshire Councillor, Heather Kidd said: “The Food Bank has been very active supplying local families, individuals and couples. People who have never had to ask for help before are facing very difficult times. Our Care in the Community Group would not have been able to do this without the help of Tesco’s in Welshpool and their local worker from Brockton who is working her socks off for us. Tesco’s have and continue to work with us to make sure we are able to supply our emergency food parcels both in free food and subsidised food.
“The Coop are also helping us as is a local egg producer and others not least the Cock at Brockton who turns food near to date into meals for the freezer. These can then go straight out to people in need.
“We owe a huge thanks now and for the weeks to come.”
Ruth Houghton, Shropshire Councillor for Bishop’s Castle Division added: “the newly established food bank in Bishop’s Castle is very grateful for the support and donations provided by Morrisons in Welshpool and Tescos in Ludlow and Welshpool, the help offered really has been appreciated”
Local stores have also helped the Bishop’s Castle Food Bank, these include Wentnor Village stores, Harvest Wholefoods, Bishop’s Castle Pharmacy as well as the Co-op and Spar shops in the town. “These generous donations, the financial support received from local donors and importantly the local volunteers helping every week have enabled the food bank to become a reality in a very short space of time”
