B4386 Road Safety Meeting

I organised a meeting on 23rd October in Marton Village Hall to discuss road safety along the length of the B4386 including Brockton, Worthen and Marton and the failure of Shropshire Council to respond to residents serious concerns on this issue. It was attended by around 50 residents and Mark Barrow, Director of Place at Shropshire Council (which includes responsibility for roads and road safety) and his Deputy Steve Brown.
The officers listened to residents experiences and complaints and also their frustrations at getting the Council to do anything. The agreed to set up a working party to agree a plan of action for the whole route from Shrewsbury to Chirbury. The plan will include pavements, junctions, signage, speeding traffic and more. The party would include parish councils, local residents and myself – hopefully also the police. At our insistence, this will meet in the near future as soon as we have dates.

Parish Councils
Both Worthen with Shelve and Chirbury with Brompton Parish Councils have put significant sums aside to fund road safety improvements in their respective parishes. We need Shropshire Councils agreement to proceed. However, we are currently waiting for the Council’s contractors – WSP- to draw up plans for many of these agreed schemes. I will continue to press for action by Shropshire to deliver on this.
