March against bus cuts

The A553 bus from Plox Green to Bishops Castle is threatened with a reduction in services from 5 per day to 2 per day. This will seriously affect people from Bishops Castle along the route getting to hospital appointments, work, Children’s centres now situated in Shrewsbury, volunteering at SpArC , getting to the doctors and much more. More than 100 people took part in this march and a considerable number from the 553 bus route.

The rise in costs for the Park and Ride will also affect us all. it is proposed that the Park and Ride fee will rise from £1.50 to £2 per person. It will be more cost effective to drive in and park. This will affect the air quality and congestion in the town.

On top of that buses in Shrewsbury, Ludlow and Bridgnorth will be reduced and the time between them increased.

The Council’s financial strategy for 2019/20 includes a budget reduction of £405,000 in public transport and raise an extra £50,000 for Shrewsbury Park & Ride. This is the consultation on this.
