A5 Night Closure on Shrewsbury By-Pass 28th Aug – 6th Sept

Dear All
For those of you who might be coming home after 9pm in the evening and using the A5 – Highways England are replacing the lighting on the roundabout with the B4386 and the A5 and also the roundabout to Welshpool. Part of their letter to residents is below but the full version and maps are attached above. Closure is between the Edgebold roundabout and the Chuncote roundabout. Using the A488 to Bishops Castle appears to be ok.

Letter from contractor:
Dear Resident
Woodcote Roundabout Street Lighting Renewal
I am writing to let you know that we are planning to carry out the replacement of the
lighting lamps and columns at Woodcote roundabout. The existing lighting has exceeded
its expected lifespan and had failed its safety testing. This meant that we were forced to
turn off the lights which led to enquiries that the roundabout was difficult to approach in the
dark.
Doing this work will provide a number of benefits, the new lighting will be more
efficient as it uses less energy reducing light pollution. The roundabout will also be lit
to current standards and will reduce the need for maintenance, therefore reducing
disruption to the customer. This work is part of Highways England’s continuing
investment in the network within Shropshire.
When will this work take place?
The work will take place from Tuesday 28 August to Saturday 6 October. To minimise
disruption, we’ll carry out the work overnight 9pm to 6am Monday to Friday (Saturday
morning).
Please note that all our planned roadworks are subject to change due to weather
conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
How will it affect traffic?
We’ll need the following full overnight closures of the A5 between Edgbold roundabout and
Churncote roundabout:
Southbound, 3 September – 15 September (Weekday nights only)
Northbound, 17 September – 6 October (weekday nights only)
