Road Safety in Marton

July 30, 2018 5:30 PM

Sorry about the delay on the report back on road safety through Marton. My daughter is getting married on Saturday and it has somewhat delayed my response. Monday should see my life getting back to normal!

.We have lost the Traffic highways engineer and the road signage officer. This work will now be - hopefully undertaken by a contractor called WSP. This has also held actions up. I have now asked for a meeting with them to progress much of this.

The update is as follows:

  • We had volunteers to operate a speed gun to do a survey of traffic speed at different times in the day, write to van and lorry companies and lobby the camera van attendance. Those volunteers are: Steve Parr, Liz Simmons, graham Evans; John Jones; Helen and Ian Mitchell; Felicity Bevan;
  • The speed gun was approved by the Parish Council last night. Along with high vis jackets.
  • We will approve the safety policy for use at the next meeting. 3 people will need to take part in the process of collecting data on speeds.
  • As soon as it arrives we will set about springing into action.
  • Widening pavements is vital. We do have some volunteers but will need more. Those volunteers are: Steve Parr, Liz Simmons, Graham Evans; John Jones; Helen and Ian Mitchell; Bob & Maureen Jenkins; Jenny Parry. Derek & Val Mostyn,
  • Costings for heavier work will be needed and then the Parish will need to consider precepting to do that work.
  • I will set up a walk through to map this in the next 2 weeks. Volunteers welcome!
  • The 30 mph sign at the bottom of the village has been hit by a car and has been reported I will chase that again.
  • We also had volunteers for fund raising and campaigns

We now have a new clerk who will be asked to action Parish issues. Other areas of concern:

  • The numbers of HGV's using the area
  • Potholes - which have been reported over and over again.
  • A new light at the bottom of Marton. The new clerk will be asked to get a quote.
  • Safety issues at the junction of Chirbury to Marton road. The land on the left will be donated but the iron fence side still needs negotiation with the land owner.
  • Investigate the right of way at this junction.
  • The junction at the shop.
  • The bend at the bottom near the Village Hall.
  • Designs for correx boards will go to the next council in September. Volunteers for designs are welcome.
  • Days of action to deal with verges to be organised for the autumn - when it is wetter and hedges can be cut back.

I hope that's helpful. Do get back to me with ideas and I will talk to Felicity and Maureen about dates and actions.
