Governments Affordablr Homes Initiative Criticised

Heather has condemned the Government announcement of £60m to help tackle the second homes problem in rural area as a ‘token effort that will not help Shropshire.”
Heather said: “Although any money is welcome to tackle the housing crisis in rural areas this is a pittance. Take for instance the £19 million allocated for the South West of England. At current construction prices that will only build around 160 new homes for an area stretching from Land’s End to Gloucester! ! And that’s if the land is available- and it usually isn’t! As for Shropshire, it seems we fail to meet the criteria to get any money at all!

The Government must find ways to free up land for local needs housing.
“More seriously however, this is just another sign that the Government is tinkering around the edges of the affordable homes crisis instead of taking the bull by the horns and bringing in the wholesale changes to planning policy and housing funding that is necessary. At the moment we still have far too many 4 and 5 bedroomed houses being built and too few 2 and 3 bedroom family homes.”
