1675 School Building re-opens

Residents, children and parents in Chirbury were celebrating this week the reopening of one of the oldest school buildings still in use in the UK
Local Councillor Heather Kidd said “This house was built in 1675 and is a grade two listed building. Part of the premises was a dwelling until some years ago when the Edward Lewis Trust, who own the building, let it in its entirety to Chirbury Primary School. Since then a great deal has been done by volunteers and local contractors to bring the building back into full use whilst keeping its unique character.
“At the reopening we had a broad range of former pupils present some now in their 70s sharing reminisces of being taught in the school house almost seventy years ago.”
The building now includes a classroom (which has been in almost continual use since 1675), office and a school reception area.
