Heather Calls for Road Contractors to be sacked

Heather has called on the Council to sack its roads contractors unless they rapidly improve the quality of their work.

She made her remarks after the Council admitted that there were serious shortcomings in the service at Thursday’s full council meeting.

Heather said “The shortcomings of Ringway and Eurovia are legion. For example, they have taken four attempts to resurface the road through the village of Marton. I am glad that the Administration is at long last recognising that radical action is required to sort this problem.”
Her comments drew support from members accross the political spectrum.

Cllr Vivienne Parry (Ludlow South) added “In Lower Corve Street it took these three occasions to get this right. It caused considerable disruption to residents and businesses alike and it’s still not perfect. They really need to sharpen up their act. This is just not acceptable to the council tax payers of Shropshire.

Complaints include:

I) General poor workmanship including rough, uneven surfaces and crumbling road edges.

Ii) The length of time road works take to complete (and the number of time is takes to get it right!!)

Iii) failure to clean out road drains properly. They clean the drains themselves but not the pipes that connect them leading to chaos in bad weather.

Iv) painting of white lines (and yellow lines) on the road is haphazard and wasteful .

CRUNCH TIME

Heather concluded: “although I’m glad that Simon Jones has at last acknowledged that we have a serious problem, we know have to take the bull by the horns. The Council needs to demand a dramatic improvement in the quality of the service delivered or they should be sacked forthwith. The Council tax payers of Shropshire have suffered long enough and this needs sorting before the onset of bad weather this Autumn.”
