Heather’s Report for August

20 Is Plenty Campaign

We’ve all experienced the aggravation that speeding motorists have caused in our villages. As a long-time campaigner on this issue, I am happy to back this campaign. It urges Shropshire council to bring forward plans to implement a county-wide 20mph default speed limit in residential areas

This is what they say:
The 20 Is Plenty campaign would make Shropshire roads a safer place for all of us. Over 20 million UK residents now benefit from 20mph limits including our near neighbors – Wales and Herefordshire. Based on overwhelming evidence it is known that 20mph wide-area speed limits on the majority of streets and roads reduce death and injury, increase rates of walking and cycling, improve public health, reduce air pollution and climate-damaging carbon emissions. 20mph limits are supported by many Shropshire residents.

There is a petition you might want to sign if you haven’t done so already in support of this campaign and you can do so by going to this page –

Long Mountain School in Worthen has had speed pipes, to monitor traffic speed, laid down with a view to installing 20 mph around the School. These will also be put down at Chirbury School in September and hopefully, the traffic speed will mean both villages will have 20mph limits. I am also pressing for them to be put down outside of Stiperstones School.

SEVERN TRENT

Although I’ve had many issues with some of Severn Trent’s work in the past, I must express my thanks to the team that has been laying a new pipe between Folly Cottages and Chirbury over the last few weeks. They have been helpful and flexible whilst undertaking quite a substantial piece of work.

I have also established a direct contact line with their local team. Let’s hope that their unannounced and disruptive road repairs are a thing of the past.
