Dear All
The appalling stretch of the A490 between Chirbury and Forden will be closed next week to make it more permanently safe – this comes rapidly after our well attended South West Shropshire local joint committee met on Wednesday to complain about the standard of our road surfaces and workmanship.
URGENT Temporary road closure:
Road Closure: A490 Chirbury to the County Boundary (past the Shiregrove bridge)
Date: Tuesday, 2nd March – Thursday 4th March 2021 from 09:30 to 16:00
Purpose: Urgent Road Closure to repair carriageway defects. HGVs and buses will be allowed access
Works Promoter: Shropshire Council

This stretch of road which had temporary repairs recently has been selected for the new experimental work – see the message below from the Highways Manager for Shropshire:
The A490 between Chirbury and the County Boundary has been selected to form part of a trial of enhanced reactive carriageway repairs, you may have seen areas marked out on the carriageway surface. Areas of the carriageway which are potholed, rutted, or crazed have been marked and these areas will be milled out and repaired using hot bituminous macadam material. The highways Alliance are trialing methods of providing right first time carriageway repairs, which if successful will be rolled out on a countywide basis.
Fingers crossed it is successful!
