Compulsory education to cost rural parents £550 per year

Compulsory education to cost rural parents £550 per year

has tackled a Government Minister about the extra costs parents in rural areas are going to face as the school leaving age increases this year

At present in England, 6th formers in rural areas have to pay their bus fares ( even on School buses), younger children do not.

It is pretty clear that this Government have not fully thought out the financial implications for parents of this measure brought in by the last Labour Government.

End

** In England, a young person must stay in some form of education or training until the end of the academic year when they turn 17, if they left year 11 in the summer of 2013.
This doesn’t have to mean only staying in school, it can be
• full-time education, eg at a school or college
* an apprenticeship

•.
full-time employment (over 20 hours a week) combined with part-time education or training
