Brockton and Worthen News – September

Police have run a second speeding enforcement session in Worthen and have booked 4 more for excessive speeding and cautioned a fifth.
. I have brought out Council Officers once more to look at the narrow footpath between the Old Shop and the Old School. They have agreed to look again at putting together a bid to make this path safer.
. As we go to press the railings near the bridge are being repainted. I got a some paint from the Council to do this (hopefully) annually. Many thanks to Ron Gittins for doing the work.
. After pressure from local residents, the Parish Council and myself, Shropshire Council have agreed to set up an advisory 20mph speed limit (which can be implemented quickly) through Brockton Meadow.
. I’ve been annoyed by the Council’s recent revelation that they have not secured funding to bring broadband to all our area. After all the publicity about ‘rolling out broadband across Shropshire’ this is very disappointing. I am continue to press the Council and BT to deliver on their promises and to consider funding innovative local solutions to this problem.
. Lastly as I’m sure you have read in the papers the Accident and Emergency and Acute Stroke Care facilities at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital are under threat. It seems Health Trust want to move them to Telford which is another 20 minutes journey time. There is a critical period – the ‘golden hour’ as is called – which is crucial to the survival of many accident and stroke victims. Given the ambulance response times we have in our area, adding this extra journey time will seriously put patients lives at risk.
