BLACK TOM MINE UNVEILING

Saturday 31st August saw the formal unveiling of the restored ‘head gear’ on the Black Tom Mine in Upper Works, Snailbeach, was due to be formally unveiled by Mrs Peggy Chidley who played a key role in saving the site.

As well as money to restore the headgear and associated machinery (Hartz Jigger and Spiral Classifier), the Shropshire Council has another £152,000 in grant funding for further restoration from Heritage Lottery.

This a joint project run by the Shropshire Mines Trust with help from Ludlow Town Walls Trust and financial assistance from Shropshire Council and English Heritage. It aims to celebrate the areas long mining history.
