PUSH FOR SHROPSHIRE TO BE ADDED TO FUEL SUDBSIDY

Heather Kidd, Councillor for Chirbury and Worthen, is urging the UK Government to add rural Shropshire the proposal published this week to extend a 5p a litre subsidy for rural petrol to Powys and other parts of the UK.
ntroduced in March 2012, which saw the discount introduced to the Hebrides, Northern Isles, islands in the Clyde and the Isles of Scilly. The UK government is now looking at petrol and diesel prices in 34 other areas in the UK including Powys and Herefordshire. The European Commission would have to approve any change to the scheme.
Fuel prices have been sought from almost 1,500 retailers ahead of making an application to the EC in the autumn for an extension to the scheme.
