Cllr Heather Kidd, former leader of South Shropshire Council, has slammed wild statements made recently about her administration by a Shropshire Cabinet member, Cllr Martin Taylor Smith.
Heather said “As usual Cllr Taylor Smiths allegations are at variance with the facts. He continually peddles the fiction that somehow my Administration implemented a ‘massive increase’ in council tax when he knows full well that year on year our increases were below those of neighbouring councils and well below those of Conservative controlled Shropshire. Despite being a small authority with a low income we kept tax rises to a minimum freezing them in 2006-7.
“He also has a problem with this next year’s figures. He claims the average Band D for Ludlow Town for example will be £1216 whereas the figure quoted by the Council he is a cabinet member of is £1522.
“If you are going to bandy figures about at least try to get them right!”
