Anger at drain clearing faliure

Heather Kidd, Shropshire Councillor for Chirbury and Worthen, has strongly criticised the standard of the Council’s drain cleaning operation after it emerged that the contract with ‘Ringway’ to undertake the work was fundamentally flawed.
Heather said “Despite a lot of work undertaken over the last few weeks by Ringway, the council’s contractor, we still have blocked drains and water on roads across our area.
” After discussions with the council however it seems that Contract does not include clearing of gulley linking pipes and the vegetation over and around the drain. In practice this means that the job is effectively only half done and we graphically see the results when it rains. In the last 24 hours alone I have reported blocked drains and overflows in Crows Nest, Aston Rogers, Brockton, Worthen, Stiperstones and Leigh Road.
“It seems now that the contractors will have to be paid extra for work that should have been included in the original contract and residents will have to suffer whilst Ringway re do all the drains!
