Councillor Lobbies Minister On Behalf Of County’s Youth

Heather Kidd, Lib Dem Councillor for Chirbury and Worthen, has met the Business Minister, Vince Cable MP, to press for greater fairness for young people in employment especially in rural areas

“These employers are also frequently very poor about holidays and training.”
Heather had an interview with Vince Cable on Saturday to put these concerns to him.
Heather concluded “This practice has particularly severe effects in areas like hours where public transport is infrequent and fuel costs are high, eating in to the little they earn.
“The Minister promised to look into the practice as youth employment issues were currently a high priority for him. He also took on board the rural dimension of young people in areas like South Shropshire driving 20-30 miles to only work 3 hours, resulting in a high drop out rate.”
