Plea To Back Voluntary Sector

Shropshire Liberal Democrats has made a last minute plea to the Administration on Shropshire Council not to scrap funding for development work in the Voluntary sector in this year’s budget.
Cllr Heather Kidd said “In the rural parts of Shropshire we are very dependent on voluntary organisations to provide many of our services. You only have to look at the excellent work that bodies like Enterprise HQ have done. However, such organisations rarely thrive without some backing, at least in their early days.”
Group Leader Cllr Nigel Hartin added “Although it’s a small reduction (£58,000) in sheer budgetary terms but will have a significant effect in those organisations targeted. The reduction in grants to organisations like Shropshire Tourism and Young Enterprise will significantly cut back their activities. Meanwhile the complete withdrawal of funding to Enterprise HQ is mystifying given that it has twice won ‘Enterprising Britain’ awards for Shropshire with all the positive PR that generated as well supporting hundreds of local business! “
