They do give advice on the site but usually turn you down. If you’ve the energy don’t be fobbed off. Persevere.
Get the history of the pothole. The length of time they have known about it and not done anything is important. FixMyStreet gives quite a bit of information if you put in the approximate post code. Dates of reporting can be found there.
A picture of the road and of the damage is important.
You will need a bill for the damage.
