The auditorium at Ludlow Assembly Rooms was almost sold out on Thursday (10 November) to hear a concert featuring the works of the 50’s and 60’s duo Flanders and Swan. The concert was organised by the distinguished pianist (and Ludlow resident) David Gaukroger to raise money for Ludlow Liberal Democrats and the Ludlow Foodbank. Renowned opera singer Kim Begley, accompanied by David on the piano, performed eleven of the Flander and Swan’s songs including ‘the Gnu’, ‘The Slow train’ and ‘Have some madeira, my dear’. The concert ended with a rousing rendition of the Hippopotamus Son’ (mud, mud, glorious mud!) in which the audience joined in.
