Heather Kidd, Deputy Group Leader of the Lib Dem Group on Shropshire Council (Chirbury and Worthen) has called on Shropshire Council to join the growing number of Councils up and down Britain that are giving vouchers to Free School meal recipients over half term. .
Heather said: “The impact of COVID has hit many families hard and are struggling to make ends meet. For example, many breadwinners are self-employed and in border areas like mine have seen much of their income disappear with the lockdown in Wales.
“The Government’s attitude to free school meals is utterly shameful. I am calling on Shropshire Council to follow the lead of many Councils across the UK and provide vouchers not only for half term but also for Christmas if the Government fails to act.”
