Residents in the villages of Worthen and Brockton in the west of the County are to enact a whole string of measures to try and curb speeding traffic and increase safety for residents. A meeting was organised by Heather with Shelve Parish Council to gather ideas and start to make things happen.
Heather said: “The problems are that the road has straight stretches which encourage irresponsible drivers to put their foot down on the way into, through and out of the villages. We have narrow pavements which make mums with buggies walk on the road and people with mobility scooters travel down the road. We also have large numbers of HGV’s travelling through the area.”
The B4386 is now so busy that it is seriously effecting the lives of the people who live here. Walking from the shop to Brockton is dangerous in places and children from the school are put at risk when being walked down to the church. People crossing the bridge in Brockton simply take their lives in their hands as it is narrow and has no footpath across it.
“The Parish and I were delighted that up to 40 people attended on a bitterly cold morning – especially as there were other events taking place. We have a number of actions now. They include:
“We really cannot keep waiting for something to be done – someone will be killed. Our children are precious and residents have the right to be able to walk safely to the shop, School, Pub, Village Hall and the Doctors surgery from wherever they live in Worthen or Brockton.” Concluded Heather.
