Organ Donation Triumph for Campaigner

Shropshire Council have overwhelmingly endorsed a motion to promote organ donation across England conceived and campaigned for by Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate for Ludlow and Bridgnorth Councillor Charlotte Barnes.
A paper came to council as a result of Cllr Barnes motion over twelve months ago asking Council to lobby Westminster for a change to the way in which we donate our organs.
The system at the moment is that people need to sign the register if they want to donate their organs in the event of their death. However the change proposes an opt out system which would mean ‘assumed consent’ i.e. if people didn’t want to donate they could ask to be taken off the register. This would increase peoples chances of getting a donor which would mean many more people on the waiting list would receive an organ in time.
