Mystery Surveillance Camera Appears in Village
Residents in the Shropshire Village of Chirbury have expressed concern about the surprise arrival of a remotely controlled camera in the village centre.
This camera appeared a month ago without any consultation with anyone locally. It’s mounted on a pole and rotates to scan down the village streets.
I made urgent enquiries and found that a Dyfed Powys Police contractor had asked the Highways department of Shropshire Council about the ownership of the verge. Neither the Planning Department of Shropshire, our parish council or residents have been consulted. It seems even the police in Welshpool know nothing about it. It is right outside a house in the Conservation area. The lady went out and came back to find it right next to her hedge! If this had been put outside the village there would not have been half the concern there is now.
Heather has redoubled her efforts on this issue and has contacted the police commissioner for the Dyfed Powys Force about it.
