Lapwings and Curlew

Lapwing and Curlew numbers have been declining for a number of years. The good news is that we still have small populations of both nesting in our area. A pair of curlew were even seen this spring investigating the damp fields near Lower Lane in the area threatened by the removal of 7 miles of hedgerow! During the elections I saw one in flight near Folly Cottages and heard several around Hemford and Gravels.

Anyone seeing curlew or lapwing nesting or feeding in our area are asked to report them to Leo Smith on 01694 720296 or email him on leo@leosmith.org.uk.
Best wishes Heather
