VILLAGE BROADBAND SUCCESS
Two Marton residents are celebrating the successful conclusion of a nine month campaign to secure a broadband link from BT.
Emma Pryce and her partner applied for broadband with BT in May. The phone line was put in but then the activation date for the broadband kept on being put off. They then received a phone call from BT to say that they cold not have broadband in their home until somebody cancels theirs or they can update the exchange, but that will not be until the end of next year.
However, local Councillor Heather Kidd contacted Ian Livingston, CEO of the BT Group who broke the log jam.
Heather said “I’ve been campaigning for a number of years to get both BT and the Council to give the commitment to give us proper high speed broadband. Businesses and individuals, if anything, rely on the internet more in country areas than those in towns. I have people all over the Chirbury and Worthen Division from Pentervin to Stiperstones and Brompton finding it difficult or impossible to receive Broadband.
“I’d like to thank Mr Livingstone for his intervention and the other BT staff who made this possible. Its amazing what becomes possible when the CEO gets involved.
“I understand that a commercial company will be offering an alternative high speed service for rural areas like ours from this month. I hope that this will give BT and other providers the jolt necessary to give us the same choice and accessibility that residents in local towns already enjoy.”
