Council Road Contractors Slammed

COUNCIL ROAD CONTRACTORS SLAMMED
Two Councillors in the West of the County have slammed the standard of service provided by Shropshire Council’s new roads maintenance contractor Ringway.

Their concerns about the contract with Ringway are as follows:
· Nothing appears to be done with any urgency.
· Finding dates for work to be completed seems impossible or extremely slow. Do they have a work programme?
· They have had complaints about them coming a fixing a pothole and leaving others because they were reported later. What is the cost of that?
· It costs extra to get them back to re-clean gulley’s and pipes which they failed to do properly the first time – even where there is a danger of flooding.
· They decided to re-surface the road in Pontesbury/Minsterley just when traffic is being redirected from the road closure in Worthen. The Council was given no warning of this.
.· Ordering parts for the Library van appears to take ages and this Library van has already missed several visits.
· There are also concerns that with less staff, winter gritting will be less effective.

Cllrs Kidd and Hartin have put in a strong complaint to the Council on this issue and are considering taking the matter to the Council’s appropriate Scrutiny Committee
