Big Turnout For Pylon Protest Meeting

Marton Village Hall witnessed a big turnout of local residents last night to discuss protest action against the proposals by Scottish Power and the National Grid to run pylons through the Camlad and Rea Valleys.
Cllr Heather Kidd, who organised and chaired the meeting, said “This was a fantastic turnout, filling Marton village hall, reflecting the strength of public opinion against these proposals. As well as from our communities people came from Powys and other affected areas of Shropshire to discuss our response.”
Following a presentation on the proposals by Cllr Wynne Jones from Dolfor, Montgomeryshire and a full and frank discussion the meeting decided on a series of protest actions including:
l Commissioning the local action group to prepare a detail repose opposing these proposals that could be agreed by local Parish Councils.
l A campaign to urge all local residents to e-mail and/or write a letter objecting to the proposals and fill in the consultation document.
l Holding a massed ‘letter writing day’ on 10 May in Worthen Village Hall.
The meeting also plotted on a detailed map all the areas of Higher Level Stewardship, Ancient Woodlands and SSSIs that would be affected by the proposal.
Heather concluded “We now have a coherent strategy and a very dedicated campaign team to combat this threat to a very beautiful part of Shropshire.”
