Government Action Needed To Stop Pubs Closing

Heather Kidd has called on the Government to take action to give tenants a fairer deal and to stop pubs closing.
Commenting on the dismissal by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) of a ‘super-complaint’ against anti-competitiveness in the pub industry, Heather Kidd echoed the views of Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Save the Pub Group, Greg Mulholland and said: “This is an extremely poor decision. Given the amount of evidence submitted I am genuinely at a loss as to how they have dismissed this complaint. Pub companies have been given the all-clear to carry on exploiting tenants, over charging them for goods and exposing them to punitive levels of rent.”
“The Save the Pub Group said all along that the Office of Fair Trading was not the right body to handle a far reaching complaint of this nature. The Government must wake up and take action to give tenants a fairer deal and to stop pubs closing. The Save the Pub Group will be pushing them with renewed vigour to do this.”
