Heather Kidd today called for reforms to be made to Jobcentreplus to enable better support for local small and medium size businesses.
Heather said “It is 100 years since the establishment of the first job centre and they just have not moved into the 21st century with the rest of us. I am hearing complaints from small businesses who say that now it is centralised people who you speak to know nothing at all about the local job market. Local businesses want to talk to local people about the local job market, local pay rates and local labour availability not someone who could be hundreds of miles away.”
Heather talked to the Federation of Small Business at the recent Liberal Democrat conference, who are campaigning for changes to the way that jobcentreplus works and she said “I fully support their proposals that they are putting forward.”
