The Tories have released proposals to cut MP’s salaries, car benefits and food subsidies. This may seem like a populist move but for the senior Tories who are proposing this, having to pay a little more for their lunch will make only a pin prick in parliamentary expenses.
Heather Kidd said “When you look at just how much money will be saved it just shows what kind of surface scratching that the Tories are proposing. David Cameron is talking about increasing the price of a salad in Westminster whilst Liberal Democrats are proposing to save millions by not renewing Trident. If this salad dressing is the kind of ‘concrete’ proposal, that we are going to have from the conservatives in the run up to the general election, then it will take centuries to balance the books!”
