ANGER AS FLOODED VILLAGE SHOP CLOSES

Bucknell Stores shut up shop on Saturday having had to cope with repeated flooding over the last two years. Sam & Lee Taylor & family, who have run the shop for the past four years received a bouquet of flowers from a grateful community.

Responding to the repeated flooding in Bucknell, Shropshire Councillor for the Bucknell area, Nigel Hartin said:

Our local community shop with an £80k turnover has had to close today, all because of Shropshire Council’s repeated failure to fix the drains despite multiple flooding incidents over the last months and years

The community reported 7 flooding incidents last year and a further three this year during which time they did nothing but pump out the drains without investigating the cause!

It was only after considerable pressure from both myself as the local Shropshire Councillor and from Jonathan Kemp, Chair of the Parish Council, that Shropshire Council finally acted and properly investigated the problem. Unfortunately, it was not soon enough for our Shop which had been flooded too often for their insurers to pay up again.
