Bid to End Road Youth Deaths

Clun Councillor Nigel Hartin, along with fellow Councillors Charlotte Barnes and Heather Kidd, have won the support of ‘The Honest Truth Partnership’ to set up a scheme to persuade young people to dive more safely in our area.

This is a joint partnership with Local Authorities, Police and Fire and importantly local driving instructors. The partnership seeks to reduce the instances of road traffic collisions by making small changes to young people’s behaviours, especially when they are behind the wheel for the first time

We all know that young people, especially young men drive much too fast. On rural roads like ours the margin of error is very small and the resulting death toll much too high. We all know people that have been killed and injured on the roads over the years.

In March the Local Joint Committee for the Bishops Castle area, composed of representatives of local parish and town councillors, decided to revive this highly successful initiative and tasked the Shropshire Councillors to pursue matters with the authorities.

Hopefully we can work with this partnership to run a similar scheme again in our area. We are meeting the partnership shortly, aiming to have the project off the ground by the Autumn.
