COUNCIL SLAMMED FOR SLASHING PARISH GRANTS

Despite widespread anger across the County and the direct intervention of a Government Minister, the Conservative Council has gone ahead and scrapped grants of over £1 million to town and parish councils across Shropshire. This despite the Government specifically giving the Council the money for this purpose.

THe Liberal Democrat amendment to re-instate this grant in the budget was defeated in a recorded vote. All Lib Dem, Labour and Independent Councillors voted for the amendment all Conservatives against.

High handed actions like this is totally unacceptable and now Shropshire Council is so arrogant that they will not even listen to the concerns of Ministers or the Parish Councils concerned or look at the impact on the Council Tax payer. It is totally unacceptable that the Cabinet thinks it can never be wrong, and will never re-examine its decisions- right or wrong.

These include Ludlow (Approx £65,000), Bishops Castle (£11,364), Craven Arms (£10,800) Church Stretton (£30,994), Bridgnorth ( £44,857), Much Wenlock (£14,013) and Broseley (£21,738).
