Village Reports for February

Healther’s report for February 2015
Health: Shropshire Health trust recently published their long awaited report listing a set of options for the future of Health care in our area. These including keeping the current status quo, building a new Accident and Emergency Centre or moving the latter to Telford.
Having kept a sharp eve on proceedings over the last months I am fearful that it is the latter option is the one preferred by the Health Trust. Much key equipment, such as the advanced scanners needed to deal with stroke victims have already been moved to Telford along with other specialised services.
In my opinion that would cost many lives in the West of the County. Shrewsbury is the logical, central position that would most efficiently serve the whole area.
The report also gives options about the role of our smaller hospitals. and I think that serious thought should be given to establishing a 24 hr ‘walk in’ site for treating less serious cases in Bishops Castle. This would make the best use of the facilities that the Surgery and Hospital already have.
Speeding: The three minibuses which have been driving very fast and dangerously through Chirbury, Marton, Brockton and Worthen (with Children aboard) have all been warned. The head of the school over the border in Wales has been informed. The drivers have now been given more time to get to and from the school. Hopefully this will improve their driving, the safety of the pupils and others on the road. Do let me know if their driving deteriorates.
The police issued 3 more speeding fines outside of Worthen School the other week and warned 6 more motorists.
Gritting: The Council’s gritting programme let down Priest Weston and many other upland areas badly over the recent bad weather. Despite strong representations from residents and myself all we received was a litany of excuses from the Council. Just because the snow has gone from Shrewsbury it doesn’t mean that our hill country is free of ice and slush. I will have taken this matter up with the Council’s Portfolio Holder.
Best wishes
