COUNCIL REFUSES MEETING ON KEY COMMUNITY GRANTS

Shropshire Council has turned down an appeal from opposition Councillors to hold a special meeting about their proposal to slash grants to Town and Parish councils.
Roger Evans, Leader of the Lib Dems on the Council, said: “Councils must by law set a legal budget. They will have to assume that Shropshire Council is not going to pass on the grant that our elected government has asked them to. This is totally unfair and immoral. It is not Shropshire Councils money it belongs to Paris Councils. They need to know now if they will get the money previously promised them.”
“Short notice like this is totally unacceptable and now Shropshire Council is so arrogant that they will not even listen to the concerns of the Parish Councils concerned or look at the impact on the Council Tax payer. It is totally unacceptable that the Cabinet thinks it can never be wrong, and will never re-examine its decisions- right or wrong.”
Roger added “Council’s like Oswestry Town stand to lose over £51,000, Shrewsbury £103,000. At the very least the Leader, Keith Barrow should be open minded enough to think this through a second time and not hide behind his self-imposed regulations
