LOCAL CAMPAIGNERS WELCOME GOVERNMENT ACTION ON MOBILE COVERAGE

Shropshire campaigners has welcomed the Governments announcement that the Government are to put pressure on the big mobile operators to introduce ‘National Roaming’ to improve mobile coverage. In Shropshire 3 Councillors have locked in a dispute with EE for months over the issue.
Heather said “In the West of the County we have been campaigning for months to get EE to listen to the complaints of residents. We’ve collected loads of evidence, run petitions and tried on 14 occasions to contact their ‘Customer Care’ people without result. Their response to letters, emails and phone calls is either nothing or nonsensical gibberish. Local people pay good money for a poor service and are treated with contempt!”
The Culture Secretary Sajid Javid MP has just announced that he wants mobile phone companies to introduce national roaming which would allow customers to switch to an alternative network if their own was not available, as happens when they are abroad.
A spokesman for the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), which oversees telecommunications, said the government was already spending £150m in areas with no coverage and was looking at doing more.
Bishops Castle Councillor Charlotte Barnes added “Residents here have been told all kinds of nonsense by EE including that our town has no network coverage. We are now taking to OFCOM and an arbitration service – CISAS just to get a response from EE! All we want to do is have a serious discussion with someone about the coverage in our area.
“Lets hope EE listens to the Government – they dont seem to be listering to anyone else!!”
