Latest Updates – Mobiles. Worthen Surgery and Stapeley Common

Dear All,

: My fellow councillor Charlotte Barnes and myself have been receiving more and more complaints about the standard of mobile phone reception as of late, particularly with the EE (formerly Orange) network.
I’ve been told that they have downgraded their local mast leading to a serious decline in reception for many. Although EE have denied this, it chimes with what we are experiencing. I know we live in a hilly part of the world but there has been a marked change for the worse since EE took over from Orange a few months ago. I have noticed blind spots in the coverage where there were none and phones repeatedly failing to connect even where the handset says there is full (four or five bar) cover.

heather.kidd@shropshire.gov.uk with your experiences (if the signal has improved or declined etc.) and if possible, what kind of signal you get i.e. 2G or 3G.

In rural areas we’ve not had the investment in both broadband and mobile phone technology that we have seen even in urban areas of Shropshire. BD
UK, the Government Agency charged with upgrading broadband say that they are aiming to expand coverage to 95% of homes in the UK. To this end Shropshire Council has been given another £1.45million and my colleagues and I will be pushing to make sure that our corner of Shropshire aren’t forgotten this time round!

With the good weather coming on its a good time to enjoy the beautiful countryside in our area. Unfortunately some people (many from outside our area) also use the opportunity to go off-roading on beauty spots and Sites of Special Scientific Interest. Take Stapeley Common for Example. We have breeding lapwings and curlew on the common and a traffic order prohibiting unauthorised motorcycles and quad bikes from using the track on Stapley Hill. Still we have a number of people flouting the order. If you see anyone doing this either on Stapley or another beauty spot either contact our Beat Constable, Anne Gutteridge on 101 or myself

.
Many of you have been concerned that Worthen Doctors new surgery was not now going to be built. Sarah Crossland , the Worthen Parish Clerk, received this reassurance today for the Agent managing it saying that although they have some problems they anticipate that work will start on the new building in late summer.

Best wishes,

Heather
Councillor for Worthen and Chirbury
