How to object to the Worthen Wind Farm Proposal

HOW TO PUT IN AN OBJECTION TO THE WORTHEN WIND FARM PROPOSAL

If you want to object to this proposal go to:

http://planningpa.shropshire.gov.uk/online-applications

and enter the reference 12/00688. or just 'Worthen'.

An application, to be effective, must be done on valid planning grounds.

This is some of the professional advice received on possible grounds for objection:

There are a number of widely recognised planning considerations associated with wind turbine development, including:

  • Contribution to national renewable energy and climate change policy objectives;
  • construction traffic, infrastructure and grid connection impacts;
  • the amenity and quality of life of local communities;
  • landscape and visual impacts including shadow flicker;
  • noise and vibration impacts including amplitude modulation (AM) and infrasound;
  • Impacts on biodiversity, particularly protected species such as bats and some bird species;
  • The potential for cumulative impacts in light of existing wind turbines.

In Shropshire, the potential for the following adverse impacts from wind turbines are particularly significant:

  • military and civilian aircraft safety through the potential impact of turbines on radar;
  • landscape quality and sensitivity, including designated landscapes such as the AONB;
  • the setting of historic environment assets and features;
  • the implications which adverse impacts on these assets may have for the tourism economy;

Finally, concerns have recently been raised about the safety of wind turbines in light of various instances of malfunction and failure of turbine installations. Safety considerations are clearly a material consideration in any planning decision and decision makers will wish to be satisfied that turbines are sited in such a way that any failure does not pose a threat to the local community or adjacent land uses.
