BC MEETS TO DISCUSS POST BIOMASS FUTURE

Residents of Bishops Castle met this week to give their view on the future uses for land in their town, especially that of the former proposed Biomass site on Crowgate Business Park.
The meeting/surgery, held in Church Barns, was organised by local Lib dem Councillor Charlotte Barnes attracted many residents from across the town and the wider community.
Charlotte said “After all the trauma of the Biomass saga it was high time that ordinary residents had their say on how the town should develop, especially with regard to providing affordable homes and jobs for local people.”
Amongst the issues discussed were:
l The Local Development Framework and land for affordable housing.
l Business land and its future
l Thoughts on a new market site and use of the Crowgate Business Park
l Use of land around Enterprise house and also the future of Public Hall
There was a strong consensus that some quite radical action was needed to capitalise on available land just off the town centre including the Public Hall, Enterprise House and Auction Yard. For example, many suggested that the Auction Yard (which is Council Owned) should be moved to Crowgate Business Park and the area developed for public buildings and affordable homes.
